About the event

Speaker: Rosario Perricone (Anthropologist, Academy of Fine Arts Palermo, Italy)
Moderator: Sidhi Visatya (Queer art practitioner)
Rosario Periconne will present a masterclass informed by his earlier research at Museo Marionette Palermo, Italy, developed in response to the MUSEUM FORWARD 2025 theme and the residency framework at Museum Nyah Lasem. His project stems from an exploration of dispersed family archives in rural Sicily, which revealed a landscape of personal memories and narratives closely intertwined with wider collective histories. This work has shaped a renewed perspective on photography, both as an object and as an anthropological lens. In an age saturated with images, orality has re-emerged as a vital element in how visual meaning is created and interpreted. This “orality of the image” is embedded in everyday life, elusive to define yet central to how we understand and navigate the world today.
