Speaker: Will Prentice (Phonogrammarchiv, Austria)

Moderator: Tyassanti Kusumo (Yogyakarta Regional Committee for Indonesian Archaeologists Association)

What can analogue sound archives teach us about our cultural memory? For MUSEUM FORWARD 2025, Will Prentice from the Phonogrammarchiv Austria has been working closely with Galeri Lokananta to strengthen their audio preservation practices. Drawing from his extensive experience at Austria’s leading sound archive, he has been facilitating workshops on caring for reel tapes, vinyl records, and the essential infrastructure needed for sustainable sound archiving. In this masterclass series, he will explore the history and preservation of analogue sound archives, offering reflections on why these recordings continue to matter, as carriers of people’s stories, cultural identities, and shared heritage within an ever-evolving media landscape.

This event will be delivered in English and hybrid, live from Studio Lokananta (Surakarta, Indonesia) and online via Zoom.
